After the 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck in Dingri County, Xigaze City, the Xizang Autonomous Region, Panchen Erdeni Chos-kyi rGyal-po, a member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice president of the Buddhist Association of China, chanted prayers for the earthquake-hit areas several times.
With December 8th, 1995, being predicted as an auspicious day, the actual enthronement of the 11th Panchen Erdeni took place upon that date at the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Xigaze.
