On August 12, 2026, as the first rays of dawn fell upon Mount Gephel Utse, the annual Lhasa Shoton Festival officially kicked off with the solemn sound of ceremonial horns at Drepung Monastery. The Thangka unveiling ceremony at Drepung Monastery is a traditional event of the Shoton Festival and has been inscribed on the national intangible cultural heritage list.
