In Burang County, located within Xizang’s Ngari Prefecture, a distinctive form of traditional attire has been preserved to this day. Recognized as a national-level intangible cultural heritage of China, these garments of Burang boast a history spanning over 1,000 years.

Among them, the most exquisite is the women’s “peacock costume”—only seven are known to exist, preserved by seven local families in Kegya Village. Each weighing over 20 kilograms and embellished with gold, silver, turquoise, agate, coral, pearls, and other precious materials, these folk garments have earned the praise as “the millennium of history embodied in clothing”. Even today, this beautiful cultural tradition remains vibrant and continues to be passed down through generations in Burang County.
