Immersive Journey Through the Blissful Snowy Plateau

The heavy clolor scroll painting “Illustrated Xizang” is a landmark work in contemporary Tibetan art, created over five years by artist Han Shuli in collaboration with Tibetan painters Tsering Namgyel and Langdun Dedron. Beginning in 2024, the Weland Museum of Contemporary Art began using AI generative technology to transform these static paintings into dynamic visuals, providing an immersive experience that moves beyond “viewing art” to “stepping into the art.”

The work uses Tibetan calligraphy as its structural backbone and the Yarlung Tsangpo River as its guiding thread, seamlessly connecting 147 cultural details from across Xizang’s seven prefectures. As the imagery slowly flows, viewers feel as though they are entering the painting itself—immersed in the serenity of the snowy plateau and exploring the enduring heritage of seven prefectures living in ecological harmony.
