On May 8th, the opening ceremony of “Gazing upon the Potala”—The Art Exhibition of Jing Tingyao was held at the Xizang Art Museum. The exhibition showcases over 60 masterpieces, representing the artist’s dedicated focus on Tibetan themes for more than 30 years.

During the opening ceremony, Jing Tingyao shared his creative insights. He recalled his first visit to Xizang in the late 1980s, an experience where he was deeply captivated by its rich history, culture, and local customs. He famously remarked, “The physical altitude determines the spiritual altitude, and the spiritual altitude determines the artistic altitude.” Jing also elaborated on how he drew inspiration from Tibetan Thangkas and murals while building on traditional Chinese painting techniques, and how, through bold experimentation with materials, he eventually forged a unique artistic approach to depicting Tibetan people and landscapes.
