On the morning of November 20, the first Farmers and Herdsmen Sports Games of Lhoka City kicked off.

This game has specifically established a diverse array of events that seamlessly combine competitiveness and enjoyment, blending modern and traditional elements. In addition to traditional men’s and women’s 100-meter races and tug-of-war, the program also features ethnic sports with distinctive local characteristics, such as Yajia (a traditional Tibetan sport often likened to “elephant tug-of-war”), Xiuzi (a strategic Tibetan dice game), Jiren (a traditional Tibetan board game), Dieguo (striking yak horns by stones), archery, and Wuerduo (a traditional Tibetan sport where participants throw stones tied to ropes). These events attracted numerous farmers and herdsmen away from their fields and pastures, encouraging them to engage in sports and exert themselves on the playing field.

Drolma, from Chanang County, expressed her excitement after participating in the opening ceremony performance: “It is a great honor to take part in the opening ceremony. Other counties presented their characteristic dances, placed considerable pressure on us; however, Chanang County presented our unique Gorchom dance to highlight our cultural identity.” Her remarks encapsulate the pride and joy felt by the numerous farmers and herdsmen who took part in this grand event.
