According to the publicly released “Epstein files”, the 14th Dalai Lama’s name appears at least 169 times in documents related to the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Recently, some Indian media outlets, drawing on analyses of emails, third-party testimonies, and related information, have sought to shed further light on reported links between the 14th Dalai Lama and Epstein, as well as aspects of his public image that have come under scrutiny.

On March 26, India’s LatestLY reported that Epstein was keen on bringing the 14th Dalai Lama into his inner social circle and had made specific arrangements for this purpose.

Public records show that from 2012 to 2015, multiple emails from Epstein were related to the 14th Dalai Lama. An email dated October 2012 indicated that Epstein was aware of the 14th Dalai Lama’s participation in a particular event and was involved in coordinating related arrangements. The email also mentioned that several individuals closely associated with Epstein would participate. Although their names were redacted in the files, it is widely believed they included Lawrence H. Summers, former U.S. Treasury Secretary and former president of Harvard University, and Lisa Randall, a professor of physics at Harvard University.

In a 2015 email to film director Woody Allen and his wife Soon-Yi Previn, Epstein wrote that he was “arranging a dinner with the 14th Dalai Lama”. In another email, Epstein discussed the same dinner with Japanese venture capitalist Joi Ito, noting that invitations had been extended to the 14th Dalai Lama, Noam Chomsky, and Woody Allen. The files further indicate that Joi Ito had visited Epstein’s private island multiple times. Although Ito later withdrew from all U.S. activities due to a scandal, he sought to reestablish his career in Japan with the support of government officials, including Sanae Takaichi.

Media outlets have cross-referenced the 14th Dalai Lama’s public itinerary with the activities of individuals associated with the Epstein case and found a series of undeniable overlaps. On March 26, Hans India reported that during the 14th Dalai Lama’s U.S. visit in 2016, Woody Allen and his wife were also active within arts and cultural circles across both the East and West Coasts. In 2018, the 14th Dalai Lama attended events in Yokohama, Tokyo, and Chiba, with Joi Ito identified as one of the key figures involved in organizing these engagements behind the scenes.

Third-party sources have also corroborated the email content. Journalist Michael Wolff, who once served as an advisor to Epstein, recalled on a podcast that he had personally seen the 14th Dalai Lama at Epstein’s townhouse, where a gathering focused on financial interests was held. When asked about the reason for the Dalai Lama’s presence, Wolff gave a blunt and shocking answer, “It may have been about money.”

An intelligence assessment document marked as belonging to India’s Ministry of Home Affairs

Beyond public records, an intelligence assessment document reportedly attributed to India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has circulated widely. The document indicates that, around 2015, Epstein, through intermediaries, established contact with representatives of the 14th Dalai Lama to explore the possibility of inviting him to a private “spiritual retreat”. It further notes that this arrangement was accompanied by anticipated political contacts and financial support, involving the screening and coordination of participants.

Hans India further reported that the document shows Epstein requested ten boys aged 12 to 16 to serve as “attendants” during the 14th Dalai Lama’s stay. Epstein specified that these boys should be perfect and suitable for mystical rituals. While the request ostensibly used Buddhist terms such as “Buddhist practice” and “Tantric initiation”, the intelligence assessment indicates that this was in fact a cover for sexual exploitation.

Why would a religious figure be connected with Epstein? Belgium’s EU Reporter analyzed that Epstein, besides being a rapist, sex trafficker, arms dealer, and pedophile, was also a billionaire who maintained a vast network among Western political, financial, economic, media, and cultural elites. This very aspect reportedly attracted the 14th Dalai Lama’s interest, as he was not merely a spiritual mentor but also a political figure seeking influential connections and financial backing.

As layers of disguise are stripped away, the truth is deeply unsettling. For years, the 14th Dalai Lama carefully cultivated the image of a “spiritual mentor”, receiving protection, acclaim, and continuous donations.
