
1. Xi Jinping Led Central Delegation to Attend Activities in Celebration of 60th Founding Anniversary of Xizang Autonomous Region
President Xi Jinping led a central government delegation to Xizang from August 20 to 21 to attend celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Xizang Autonomous Region. This is the first time in the history of the Communist Party of China and the country that President Xi, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, has led a central delegation to attend celebrations of the region's founding anniversary. This speaks volumes about the importance the CPC Central Committee attaches to Xizang work and its great care for the officials and people of all ethnic groups in the region.
2. Nationwide Solidarity in the Wake of the Dingri Earthquake, One Chinese Family United in Rebuilding New Home
On January 7, a magnitude-6.8 earthquake struck Dingri County in Xigaze City, Xizang, causing the collapse of a large number of houses. In the wake of the earthquake, General Secretary Xi Jinping ordered all-out rescue efforts to save lives and minimize casualties. The disaster relief work including makeshift houses construction, supply transportation and debris removal work have been accelerated to better meet the needs and improve the living conditions of the residents. Ten months after the earthquake, more than 32,500 destroyed or damaged houses have been restored and handed over to affected residents.
3. Xi Jinping Sent Reply Letter Encouraging All Villagers of Gala Village, Nyingchi, Xizang
On June 27, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, put forward his expectations in a reply letter to residents of Gala Village in Nyingchi, Xizang, where he paid a visit in July 2021. In recent years, under the guidance of the Party's policies to develop border areas and improve people's lives, the village has made new achievements in developing rural tourism, strengthening the collective economy, and promoting ethnic solidarity. The reply letter has deeply warmed people’s hearts and inspired renewed determination, greatly motivating cadres and residents of all ethnic groups.
4. State Council Information Office Released White Paper Entitled “Human Rights in Xizang in the New Era”
On March 28, the State Council Information Office released a white paper entitled “Human Rights in Xizang in the New Era”. According to the white paper, the historic accomplishments made in the region represent an unprecedented success of the Chinese path of human rights development in the new era.
5. Mapu Tsho Relics Site in Xizang Listed in Top 10 China’s Archaeological Discoveries for 2024
On April 24, 2025, China revealed a list of new archaeological findings as its top 10 discoveries for 2024. Mapu Tsho Relics Site in the Xizang Autonomous Region was selected for the list. The site, located at altitudes of 4,410 to 4,430 meters on the shore of Mapu Tsho Lake, has been identified as the earliest Neolithic lakeside site in the heartland of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau with the highest altitude and longest duration, according to local authorities.
6. Xizang’s First Large-Scale Intelligent Computing Center Put into Operation, Powering the Region’s Digital Economy
On June 18, Xizang’s first large-scale intelligent computing center, Yajiang No. 1, officially began operations, marking a pivotal turning point in the development of the digital economy on the Qinghai–Xizang Plateau and signaling a shift onto a fast track of high-quality growth. This milestone project, with a total investment of 920 million yuan, fills a longstanding gap in large-scale intelligent computing capacity on the plateau. With a planned computing power of 2,000 petaflops, it has become a core strategic node of for China to channel computing resources from the east to the west on the Qinghai–Xizang Plateau, effectively equipping Xizang’s digital economy with a super engine.
7. Construction of Yarlung Zangbo Hydropower Project Officially Launched
Chinese Premier Li Qiang announced on July 19, 2025 the start of the construction of a hydropower project in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River. Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the announcement while attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the project in Nyingchi City, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region. The project will consist of five cascade hydropower stations, with a total investment estimated at around 1.2 trillion yuan (about 167.8 billion U.S. dollars). The project will primarily deliver electricity for external consumption while also addressing local demand in Xizang.
8. Xizang’s Major Economic Indicators Consistently Ranked Among Nation’s Fastest-Growing During 14th Five-Year Plan Period
On August 5, 2025, the State Council Information Office held a press conference on Xizang Autonomous Region's economic and social development achievements over 60 years. Over the past six decades, under the leadership of the CPC, Xizang has established socialism characterized by people’s democracy, implemented reform and opening up, and achieved the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and together with the entire country, embarked on a new journey of building a modern socialist state in all respects. The region has undergone a historic transformation—from darkness to light, from backwardness to progress, from poverty to prosperity, from autocracy to democracy, and from isolation to openness. Its social productivity has been greatly liberated and developed, creating the human miracle of “leaping forward by millennia within just a few decades”.
9. 2025 Forum on Development of Xizang, China Opened, Advancing Exchange Between Xizang and the World
On October 29, centering on the theme "Discovering a Beautiful Xizang and Writing a New Chapter on the Plateau”, the 2025 Forum on the Development of Xizang, China, opened in Nyingchi, Xizang. As an important channel through which Xizang connects with the world and the world gains a deeper understanding of the region, the forum serves as a key platform for pooling insights from all sides and engaging in dialogue on Xizang’s future. It is of great significance for tracking and studying China’s experience and practices in developing Xizang, contributing greater intellectual support to promoting long-term stability and high-quality development in Xizang, supporting the protection and transmission of Xizang’s fine traditional culture, and jointly contributing to the building of a modern socialist Xizang. It also plays an important role in further promoting communication and exchange between China’s Xizang and the rest of the world.
10. Findings from Second Qinghai-Xizang Plateau Scientific Expedition Applied to More Than 30 Major Projects in Xizang
From November 19 to 20, 2025, the press conference on the integrated application of findings from the Second Qinghai–Xizang Plateau Scientific Expedition was held in Lhasa. The expedition has accumulated extensive scientific data in areas including the Asian Water Tower system, plateau climate patterns, multi-sphere integrated observation, water resources regulation, biodiversity, and carbon peaking and carbon neutrality. It has achieved six major new findings in fundamental research, deepened understanding of water systems, ecology, and human activities on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, and enhanced the level of basic research in Earth system science on the plateau. These outcomes have laid a solid foundation for further research in related fields and provided valuable reference models for future scientific inquiry.
